A Holiday Greeting

Dear Drug Channels reader,

Wow. Hard to believe that 2011 is almost over!

Thank you for welcoming me into your inboxes and browsers this year. It's been an eventful 12 months, with no shortage of interesting topics and controversial news. I appreciate the many people who took time to engage in often-spirited discussions below the articles.

I want to give a special thank you to my consulting clients. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to work with you. I learn so much from our interactions and hope I offered as much value in return.

Drug Channels will be back in 2012. In the meantime, please enjoy the video greeting below from my disco dancin' alter ego!

All the best,
Adam

    Hi Adam,

I enjoy your expert opinion and I have purchased reports from you in the past. I'm not clear why you are so sour on the New York AWP laws recently passed. It simply allows patients and Pharmacist to make a choice. If the Pharmacy makes bad decisions and loses money then he/she should have a right to do so. The passing of the bill does not add additional cost to the health care system- you talk about the inefficiencys of local Pharmacies but why do you care- It add's no cost to the HealthCare system- It does allow to Pharmacist to control their own destiny - it does Patients some control of their own destiny. I'm sure you agree that all Pharmacies are different and in some cases local Pharmacies have developed unique Best practices that are far and above greater then any service you can get by a mail-order Pharmacy. Why don't you acknowledge , that creativity to improve patient care can many times require a local company.  You go on to say the margins at wholesalers will shrink due to the AWP law in New York- Why do you care when the AWP law adds no additional cost to the Health Care system- why are you concerned about local Pharmacies now being able to push wholesaler margins down due to competition. This adds no cost to the Health Care system. I suppose I still have a lot to learn.

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

  7. Steve,

As I point out in a comment on my original article, the original wording would have raised costs. The revised wording will lower costs by reducing retail pharmacy margins.
