If anything, this reminds me of Express Scripts trying to get doctors to switch to Zocor in 2006 before it went generic. This definitely hurt Lipitor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I don&amp;#39;t get your comment about PBMs wanting more expensive drugs. The hot topic out there right now is &amp;quot;comparative effectiveness&amp;quot; .  At the same time Pharmaceutical companies are taking a lot of heat for ghost writing, transparency  of payments to physicians, credibility issues with studies too closely tied to the manufacturer, etc  The brand manufacturer gets several things out of this Medco announcement. Access to market, trial participants, physician participation, no direct link to the manufacturer.  It is expected that 25% of participants will benefit from this drug, so the manufacturer has a large steak in this and prices are considerably higher.   What if there is a rebate deal behind this too.
